A little history
Under the hair smooth and sleek, seductive character, gentle and loving lies a small, strong body that betrays its true origin, before domesticated in the richest families: the Bichon Maltese was a rat catcher.
The name comes from the word Maltese Jew "Malat" meaning harbor, which explains their origin in the port cities of the Mediterranean sea. Its role as skilled hunter of rats and mice had to give meaning to their existence. This is a very old breed and quoted by Aristotle and most often represented as a dog-and company-in Renaissance paintings.
